Who's behind Tide & Bean, and how we work.
The mission — coffee that gives back to the sea — lives on its own page. This one is for the practical stuff: who we are, where the coffee comes from, and how the brand is built.
The brand
Tide & Bean is a specialty coffee brand operated by Hearth & Harbor Holdings LLC. We sell Fairtrade-certified and specialty-grade single-origin coffees from twelve growing regions across three continents, plus a small house-blend lineup. Every bag funds ocean cleanup work through verified partner organizations.
We're an independent brand, not part of a larger coffee group. Decisions get made by a small team that drinks the product every morning.
How we roast
We roast in small batches on commercial equipment, dialed in for each origin. Different beans need different profiles to taste like themselves — what makes a Kenyan sing isn't the same curve that makes a Sumatra shine. We roast in frequent small batches based on customer demand, so our coffee isn't produced far in advance or held in storage.
Quality control is batch-by-batch. We don't roast coffee as a hobby and we don't cut corners on green coffee quality to hit a price point. If a batch doesn't pass, it doesn't ship.
How we choose coffee
Three filters, in this order:
- Quality. Specialty-grade only. If it doesn't cup well, it doesn't make the lineup, regardless of price or origin appeal.
- Ethics. Fairtrade-certified where the supply chain supports it. Specialty-grade from smallholder cooperatives and farms with transparent labor practices for the rest. Full details on the Mission page.
- Story. Each origin earns its place by being genuinely distinctive — not because we needed a country to round out the menu.

How we sell
Direct to drinkers through this website, and through a small set of carefully chosen wholesale partners — independent boutiques, cafes, and gift shops whose values align with ours. We're not chasing big-box placement.

Where we are
Tide & Bean is based in the United States. We ship nationwide. International shipping is on the roadmap.
